Christianity is The Better Way

Published by:

We are now to Hebrews in our quick fly-over of the New Testament. The theme of Hebrews is “now we have a better covenant.”(See Heb 1:4, 7:22, 8:6 , 9;23, 10:34, 11:16, 11:40, 12>24>)The writer is comparing the new way through Jesus, the new covenant based on grace through faith, with the covenant God made through Moses, based on the Mosaic Law. Actually, that covenant was of grace too. The Jews understand it that way. Nevertheless, it requires the keeping of the law. Yet, we have better promises. We are required only to believer, to trust in, to rely on Jesus (Ep.2:8&9) and his finished work (jn7:14, Hb 4:3). And of course, that belief issues forth in good works (Ep2:10, Titus2:17). Indeed, Christ lives through us to do these good works (Gal2:21).

If the faith way of Jesus is better than that of the grace covenant brought to the people of Israel, how much more than the other ways to God offered. And lots better than nothing at all!

Hinduism has gurus who suggest that they can bring you back to union with God if you follow them through thousands of lifetimes. But how can you tell they are telling your the truth? Buddha said he did not know about the supernatural, but will offer you right living now. Even should you find someone who actually teaches what Buddha actually taught, and doesn’t mix it with stuff Buddha didn’t know about, can you really follow that? The best Buddhist students I know of stay in their room on the day they promise not to hurt anything. In Islam, you will find out just after you die if your good deeds outweigh your bad deeds. Trouble is that many verses in the Koran contradict others. What is taught as the path toward the best reward sound to everyone else as doing what is most bad, most universally condemned. You know: the seven virgins on seven sheet thing. After you left your body, remember. Then there are some animist ways, which in the USA are idealized from movies about Native Americans, however, from Asia and Africa where people follow these ways, we hear of stories of gross fear and degradation. (I am reading about them in Mountain Rain from China and Burma, but I am hearing stories from my students today. They are afraid of demons attacking them, and not without experience.)

God’s way of love, peace and joy, based on Jesus’ finished work, taken by faith, and walked out with a community sounds like the best offer to me!

So you think that Christianity makes you do a lot of stuff?!?!?!?! Poppycock. How would you like to have no path and just have to figure out what works? That is not good. How would you like to have a way of acesticism, following some guru through thousands of lifetimes — maybe? How would you like a religion that sees women as chattel? and violence as a way to heaven? How is Buddhism working out in the lands where it is regnant? For all the good claims of Buddhsim, for which it is loved in the US, like compassion and peace, how does it look like in the army of Myanmar? Or the passivity of the orders in China? Or the prosperity and restraint in the rest of Asia?

That is a very personal argument. Christianity gives guidance, restrains the community from harming the individual, gives the best offer with the least requirements — by far. It is only logical to follow.

Let’s use the sociological argument. Where in the world did equality, democracy, and economic prosperity arise? In the specifically Christian world. See Rodney Stark’s sociological history the Victory of Reason for a fulsome explanation.

Another sociological argument is : where are women treated the best? Liberalism came from Christianity.

Jesus makes the best offer. It is only reasonable to follow Him. Christianity is the community that makes the most sense, even allowing for faults of the actual people in it, even with it’s organizational blunders. It is the better covenant.

To go one/s own way, with no path, is crazy. To suggest that you shouldn’t take part in restraining yourself, is a fool’s errand, because then you will live with others who don’t restrain themselves. Or you will be entirely by yourself. If demons and goblins are frightening, then why not ally with the great good power that dominates them and sweeps them away? If you can’t understand all religions, then why not accept the one that is so simple?

Use reason. Or is your reasoning capacity so perverted by your lies that you don’t see this? Then use heart. Feel Jesus’ heart, and your friends, reaching out to you. Or has your heart not been formed to distinguish between good and bad? Isn’t that scary? Do you want to be without love? To be hard-hearted? To be confused? You must choose, because to not choose is to choose. Choose life. Choose the better covenant.

It is an amazing thing that the God of all good, all love, all truth, would want to have a covenant with you, a mere mortal. Choose life. Choose good. Choose love. Follow Jesus.

Maturity Sonship

“Sons of God” shows up in Scripture

Published by:

WOW! I recently found out that ” ‘uois” the Greek work for mature sons shows up in Scripture 7 times. AMAZING. And with all the preaching I have heard on sonship doctrine, I never heard this. Have you? If you are new to sonship doctrine, this will establish what is up — that there are …

Well, I will get back to you on that. there might be more.

Anyway, let’s study those instances I did find.

We will continue having ladies’ Bible study, but we are flexible about time, around travel. Please communicate by emailing sharon@JesusNameAustin.org.

Right now, we have an international flair. We are very welcoming of people from other countries. Please don’t be shy to join.

We are about to study Philemon. Great surprise: Hidden in the last few verses, Paul demonstrates some resolving of previous conflicts. Fun.

Our prayer series on The Great Shalom has ended, but you may get audio at www.greatshalom.org and wherever you get your podcasts.

Perfection Sonship

Certain Method for How to Become a Son of God

Published by:

Right. So, if sons of God exist, then how do we become a son of God? Isn’t that the most vital question? Right there in Matthew 5:48, Jesus tells us. Never have I heard this preached on. Never. Never have I even heard the question asked: how? by what method? But isn’t that the most important question?

So, what is the answer? How about looking right in the text and see Jesus’ answer?

Sonship

Sonship is Real

Published by:

Today we prove from the Bible that there are “sons of God” who are humans. We are looking for the Greek word for mature sons, “‘UIOS.” This word is normally used of Jesus. When Paul said we were adopted as sons, he was referring not to a family adopting a baby, but the Romans customer of a rich father announcing that his son was grown and now able to represent him business or affairs of state.   Perusing other verses, we find sonship, meaning mature sons, as opposed to other stages of childhood.  Sonship is Real.

Strangely, I have never heard a single message that was grounded in the Greek of the words for children/sons. This message is one. I ground the sonship teaching in the original text of the Bible. I prove that I know the original sonship doctrine. I build on it, in a straight, organized way.

Surprise! “King James Version” does not translate the various Greek words consistently. There are some places where ‘uois is translated children and where technon (teens) is translated sons. This makes a difference. Apparently, none of the many preachers of sonship I have heard have ever taken out the Greek text and gone through a study. Why? The founder of our movement didn’t read Greek. By the time it was acceptable to preach something different from what he preached, perhaps the idea of sonship was so “old hat” no one thought to do it? Because one or two of those verses might be so surprising as to transform lives?

Therefore, we might conclude that God has left it for us. Let’s get those revelations, apply them, and be transformed!

(This episode has no counterpart in Spanish. None of the Spanish episodes are mere translations of the English. )

Controversial Issues

Can you love someone if you don’t give full-throated approval to their lifestyle?

Published by:

We talked a little on The Great Shalom in general about how it IS possible to disagree and still love someone. This seems so very normal and so obvious, that one might wonder why the question would come up. Do husbands and wives have different favorite activities? How about children and their parents. Of course. And mature people can even love one another across divides such as denominational doctrine or politics. That is why we all go see one another at Thanksgiving, right? Haha. Of course.

Now the question gets put more seriously. “You don’t love me if you are judging me.”  Who knows what the definition of “judging me” is?  Worse, how about this one: Unless you agree with me totally, then you don’t love me.  In our world of really outlandish claims and apparently very new behaviors around sexuality, here is a new claim. Made forcefully, by someone we love, it is very intimidating. Does it make sense?

What about Biblically? Does the Bible have some something to say about this? Ironically, we were on that very passage, or I was, when the question came up. Here is a fulsome account and opening of the Scriptures.  Compare Ephesians 5: 7 and 5:11.

The short answer is of course, what about Jesus and the woman caught in the act of adultery.  Surprisingly the young women I was trying to teach already had noticed or heard that adultery takes two people.  So, yes, Jesus said, “He who is without sin, cast the first stone.”  He also said, “Go and sin no more.”  So Jesus loved the woman, presumably without any wrong judging, but did not approve of the lifestyle.

We take the position that yes, you can love someone, and yet disagree with them over lifestyle. Further, it is not up to us what sin is. This is not our judgment.  Indeed, it is hard to find any human who is not a sinner. Of course, we can love people.

We might want to spend some time on learning how to love and how to feel loved.  How about that? Wouldn’t Jesus be a good role model for being loving? And help to feel loved?

Please do not share this on Facebook, Youtube,  Google, or even on gmail.  Please share by any analog method. For instance, you could tell your friend to go to JesusNameAustin.org. Or better yet, just talk to them yourself.

Jesus the Pattern Son – an attempt to teach Sonship doctrine faithfully

Published by:

My assignment is to re-preach the sonship doctrine, faithfully to the Bible, within orthodoxy, fully, and in an organized manner.

Today we post our first and most introductory podcast. Sonship is great news because it is an invitation to a deeper walk with God, to being saved to the uttermost. This may come as a great surprise to both camps, but seems a great place to start in explaining what sonship would be.  We establish how this is wonderful news… and is true.  This is necessary to 2 reasons. 1) Those who are unfamiliar with the doctrine will need this assurance and 2) those who are familiar with the doctrine have become disillusioned and despondent and need to know both that I know the original doctrine and to re-hear it themselves.

For Spanish, please see. www.JesusHijoModelo.com

There are others who have preached sonship. Of course, we are indebted to them. I will not pretend that I received ALL of this prophetically. Much of what I bring to the table is a lifetime of living in and chewing on this doctrine. And also, a solid orthodox theological education. No one could fulfill this assignment who did not bring together this very disparate gifts. Here is a link to one of those  to whom all of us are beholden: Bill Britton.

Our aim is not to call anyone out. We are not here to judge the attempts of others. We will talk about doctrine, principles, and best ways of proceeding. Let’s all attempt to BE sons and avoid the temptation to pride that seems extraordinarily common in “sonship” circles.

Blessings Holidays News

Purim Miracle in the News

Published by:

You probably know that we have just been through the Purim holiday, the celebrations the Jews make remembering the great deliverance through Queen Esther.  If you haven’t read Esther lately, I recommend you do. You will surely find great knowledge, wisdom, and blessings. Notice how God is hidden in Esther.

If you are following the news, you may have noticed that once again, President Trump has made a formal declaration on a day special to Israel. In response, PM Netanyahu called it a Purim Miracle and once again mentioned Trump in connection with Cyrus (Queen Esther’s husband grandfather more or less.) When Netanyahu mentions the right of self defense, he is also alluding to the book of Esther.

In recognizing the Golan Heights as part of Israel (as it has been since Joshua gave it to the tribes of Dan and Mannasseh, since Bashan is gone). Further, Israel won the attack upon them in 1967 and have since held this ground. It is strategically important because whoever hold the Goal Heights can easily shoot into all of Israel.

Subsequently Hamas, Hezobollah, and Iran took to bombing Israel. Part of the reason is that Hamas higher ups want to keep the now limited money for themselves, so their people are now in the streets, demonstrating against them. Hamas then opened fire on their own people. However, it is easier to shoot at Israel as a distraction tactic. However, when  Israel gets attacked, they attack back, harder and with superior force. So the “secret” headquarters of Hamas were destroyed today.

At the same time, anti-semitic words have come forth even in the US Congress. Haman builds gallows. Even more wild, the palace plot to take down Cyrus, was exposed this week. Last year, during Purim, when Billy Graham’s body was in the capitol building, Lance Wallnau said that the lies attacking the president would be exposed. The timing has been amazing.

This week also Pastor Mahesh Chavda pointed out that the Abrahamic blessing (that the nations are blessed in Israel/that he who blesses Israel will be blessed) has had an historical manifestation. About the time of the Balfour Declaration, there was a great revival called Azusa. About the time that Israel became a nation, we had great revivals such as those of Billy Graham, A.A. Allen, and Oral Roberts. I will add that about 1967 and 73 we had another great renewal of the church in the Charismatic Renewal. Now, Israel is blessed in Jerusalem being recognized as its capital, the Golan heights recognized, and the principle of dividing up the already incomplete Israel and given away for a false promise of peace is fading. Therefore, get ready for a great tsunami of blessing.

Many people including Pastors Chavda, Clarisse Fluitt, and Kevin Zadai and many others, have predicted a huge wave of blessing and revival. Whether you will be in on it depends upon whether you want to receive it. Open your arms wide to God. Love the Truth or you WILL be deceived. Bless God and bless the people of God and you will be blessed. Love the Truth and you will see through all the smokescreen, all the lies, all the darkness of the enemy.

Although God’s promises take awhile — like how would Calvin, Wesley, Spurgeon have imagined that there would be a modern Israel?– they are sure. Be on the right side. And when you are, you will have reason to celebrate, dance, and send goodies to your neighbors. Ha!

So I impart The Blessing to you. Be in Christ now! Enjoy the blessings of Abraham NOW! Amen.
